Preparation

1. Rinse the rice in cold water to remove any excess starch.

2. In a small pot or saucepan, add the rinsed rice and water. Add oil (if using) to the pot and give it a stir.

3. Bring the water to a boil over high heat. Once the water comes to a boil, reduce the heat to low and cover the pot with a tight-fitting lid.

4. Let the rice simmer for 18-20 minutes, or until all the water has been absorbed and the rice is tender.

5. Serve the boiled rice as a side dish with your favorite curry or gravy.
