Methi Chana Dal

Chana dal

Preparation

1. Wash the chana dal and soak it in water for 30 minutes. Drain the water and set aside.

2. Heat oil in a pressure cooker or a deep pot.

3. Add cumin seeds and mustard seeds. Let them splutter.

4. Add chopped onion and sauté until it turns translucent.

5. Add chopped tomato, green chili, and ginger paste. Cook until tomato softens.

6. Add turmeric powder, red chili powder, and salt. Mix well.

7. Add the soaked chana dal and water. Mix well.

8. If using a pressure cooker, close the lid and cook on high heat until two whistles. Then, lower the heat and cook for another 10-12 minutes. If using a deep pot, cover it with a lid and cook until the dal is tender, stirring occasionally.

9. Once the dal is cooked, add chopped methi leaves and mix well. Cook for another 2-3 minutes.

10. Garnish with coriander leaves and serve hot.
