Dal Dhokli

Makes one bowl Ingredients: 1/4 cup whole wheat flour 1/4 cup besan (chickpea flour) 1/2 tsp turmeric powder 1/2 tsp red chili powder 1/4 tsp cumin powder Salt to taste 1/4 cup cooked tuvar dal (pigeon pea lentil) 1 tbsp oil 1/2 tsp mustard seeds A pinch of asafoetida (hing) 1 tbsp jaggery Chopped coriander leaves for garnish

Whole wheat flour

Preparation

1. In a mixing bowl, combine the whole wheat flour, besan, turmeric powder, red chili powder, cumin powder, and salt. Add enough water to form a stiff dough. Knead well and let it rest for 10 minutes.

2. Roll out the dough into a thin circle and cut it into small diamond-shaped pieces.

3. In a pot, bring 3 cups of water to a boil. Add the diamond-shaped dough pieces and let them cook for 10-12 minutes, stirring occasionally.

4. Drain the cooked dough pieces and set them aside.

5. In a separate pan, heat the oil and add the mustard seeds. When they start to splutter, add the asafetida, and green chilli. Cook for 1-2 minutes.

6. Add the cooked tuvar dal, jaggery and salt. Mix well and let it simmer for 5 minutes.

7. Add the cooked dough pieces to the dal and cook for another 2-3 minutes.

8. Garnish with chopped coriander leaves and serve hot.
